粘虫是一种具有迁飞性的害虫，与非迁飞性的害虫相比较，有迁飞性的害虫在面对严峻或恶劣的环境时，如在遇到高温、干旱、或缺乏食物等恶劣环境的情况下，它们可以迁飞至更适宜其生存的地区，寻找更加适宜的环境进行繁衍生存，因此具有更为强大的扩散能力，大发生时危害更大。而且据研究发现，粘虫成虫对不同的寄主植物具有不同的选择偏好，找出粘虫成虫对几种常见寄主植物的选择偏好，有利于我们在粘虫防治方面有效地权衡粘虫防治的轻重缓急，对症下药。本次试验通过记录观察处在相同生理状态下一定数量的粘虫成虫对在其不同方向的并距其相同距离的不同种类植株的选择情况，并且每隔一段时间记录下粘虫分布的情况。结果表明，粘虫成虫对我们所选取的小麦、玉米、棉花、番茄、小白菜这五种寄主植物的平均选择率的大小顺序为：小麦>玉米>棉花>小白菜>番茄。
